How Breast Symmetry is Currently Assessed
During the operation, plastic surgeons use measuring tape to determine the distances between key points on the patient's chest and mark them with sharpie directly on the patient's body. Surgeons then continue on to perform surgeries based on these markings.
Our observations of live breast surgeries and interviews with dozens of surgeons and patients revealed this process is especially inconvenient as surgeons often must stop operating to visually assess the patient's breast. Additionally, it requires years of experience to reach such a high level of expertise.
